Explore New York City (DEC Region 2)

The DEC manages nearly 400 acres of state forest and xxx acres of water in the New York City Region. This region encompasses Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.

The Long Island Region:

  • Boasts 1,600 miles of coastline

  • Is home to three estuary programs: the Long Island Sound Partnership, the Peconic Estuary Partnership, and the South Shore Estuary Reserve.

  • Is protected by four barrier islands: Long Beach, Fire Island, Jones Beach, and Westhampton Beach

  • Long Island’s sole source aquifer supplies more than 1,500 public-supply wells across Nassau and Suffolk Counties
